What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and information support to their client before, during and after birth to help them achieve calm and satisfying experience. There are different types of doulas:

  • Birth doula is a trained, non-medical companion who assists a woman before and during the childbirth. A doula provides information support, comfort techniques, advocacy, mediating between the woman and her maternity-care providers.

  • Postpartum doula is a trained person who helps families during transitioning from the hospital to home. They provide information on infant feeding and soothing, emotional, and physical recovery from childbirth and coping for new parents.

  • Sibling doula is a trained person who helps with older children while the parents are at the hospital for birth.

I just found out I’m pregnant. When do I need to contact you?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I normally book 3-4 months in advance, and I take 3-4 clients per month to ensure flexibility in my calendar. It is normally first come, first served and I do require a deposit to hold space on my calendar.

How does it work?

After an initial consultation that will help you make an informed decision on whether my services are ideal for you, I will send you a contract if you wish to use my services. After signing the contract and paying the deposit to make it official, I will, as your doula, be immediately available to provide information and support right away.

How would you work with my partner during birth?

I will not replace your partner. I will be there to make sure that both of you have the resources you need at your disposal to make the right decisions and to have the best birth you want.

Is there anything I don’t do?

I’m not a medical professional, therefore I do not offer any medical advice or diagnose you or your baby with certain illness. I can however address your concern by referring you to specific specialist.

Can you drive me to the hospital?

Due to insurance concerns, I’m unable to drive you or your family members.
